Dedicated in 1974, the main station is located in Downtown State College at 400 West Beaver Avenue, on the corner of Beaver Avenue and Atherton Street. Its location allows for quick responses throughout the Centre Region and neighboring areas. Plus easy access for community members and visitors.
The station is located just a few blocks from the Penn State campus, which allows our student volunteer members to have a quick commute to class. It also gives our student volunteer firefighters a place close to campus to study and relax. Not surprisingly, this influx of student members throughout the day helps to provide quick and effective responses to emergency and public service calls.
The main station has a full kitchen, lounge, watch-room, work-shop, gym, bunk house and of course, the apparatus bay. The bunk house includes five live-in rooms and a 7 bunks room which can hold up to 16 members. The main station is also the home of the Centre Region Fire Administration Office.
The Main Station houses: Engine 5-2 and 5-3, Truck 5-1, Rescue 5, and Tanker 5-1, Special Unit 5 and 2 fire-police units.
If you visit us at our Main Station, come to the entrance on Beaver Avenue and pull on the red webbing. It is connected to the bell which was once in service on our apparatus. Through this entrance, you’ll find our membership photo board on your left, followed by our lounge and the watch office. Directly ahead of you is the entrance to our apparatus bay. Head up the stairway to our administration office.
The College Township sub-station is located in the basement of the College Township Building at 1481 E. College Ave. This station includes a modern kitchen, a day-room, four live-in rooms and two bunk rooms which can hold a total of six members. This station houses Quint 5 and Engine 5-1.
The original building that housed the Patton Township sub-station was a township maintenance garage. The sub-station started out as an experimental endeavor. After seeing the success of the station, the Patton Township supervisors offered to build the current building.
The current building was completed in April of 2001 and is located at 2598 Green Tech Drive. The station originally housed a single engine. The station now houses 3 units: Engine 5-4, Truck 5-2, and Tanker 5-2. The station also has 4 live-in members that help to provide staffing for the engine, truck or tanker. It also includes a bunk room that can accommodate up to 6 firefighters.
