Alpha Fire Company Open House–Sunday May 5th From 1-4 pm!

May 2, 2019
Preparations are under way to welcome the community at large, as well as people of all ages and backgrounds interested in becoming Alpha Volunteers … to our open house this Sunday from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the Borough Main Station at the corner of South Atherton Street and West Beaver Avenue. What’s always been best about this event for us is being able to show our own appreciation for the people of the region we live in and serve. We shine and polish everything up, have activities for the kids (no shortage of engines, trucks and equipment to try out!), and share our story with anyone who will listen. And yes, cookies as well! There’s almost always someone who fills out an application on Open House day who eventually becomes a member of the Alpha Volunteer Fire Company or Fire Police.

Why? Because This Is A Chance To Interview As!

If there is one consistent story from the incredibly diverse group of members we have here, it’s that at some point, every person who was once thinking about becoming a member took the next step of visiting the station. It’s a step our Open House makes really easy. They simply walked through the doors and talked to a member. As you’ll see from the quotes below—just stopping by, talking to an Alpha, and having your questions answered honestly from people just like you—is a whole different twist on an interview. How do you describe training at Alpha Fire Company? Jonathan Kim: Probationary Firefighter & Student If you’re interested in professional membership, come in for a ride along, actually go on a call. I got to see what it was all about before actually doing it.   Janet Welsh: Fire Police Officer and Penn State Professor: Before I joined officially, I sort of joined as a helper—helped with shopping, tasks around the station, getting ready for football games. It gave me a realistic view of what it was like to be here. Check it out before you join. See what you think. Lieutenant Rob Nese: Firefighter & Equipment Technician You should absolutely come down to the station. We love giving tours, and showing people what we get to to. The best way to get more information is to come in and talk with one of us, and figure it out. Christophe Cheroret: Firefighter & Doctoral Student Stop by. That’s all it takes. Maybe this is for you, maybe this isn’t. You have to dive in. Meet the people that are here. That is what really makes a difference. See if this is right for you. You don’t even have to fill out an application beforehand, just stop by Alexa Tiemann: Firefighter, Student & EMT My professor in my first semester was a firefighter volunteer at another organization. I looked for similar opportunities here and found the Alpha website. I filled out my application and stopped down at the station. If I had to do life over again, I’d do this every time.

Hope To See You Sunday Or Any Day At The Alpha Volunteer Fire Company.
